Do I have to have a VISA to travel?
Although some countries do require that you have a VISA in order to travel, VISAs are also offered upon arrival in various countries in Africa. We recommend that you take care of all your VISA needs prior to departure from the United States, due to the fact that fees may vary to be much higher in other countries. First time VISA application can take up to 8 weeks, however, there is also an option for expediting.
Am I required to have a Yellow Fever Vaccination Shot?
Yes. All travelers to Africa, in particular Ghana are required to have a Yellow Fever Vaccination Shot, unless otherwise medically waived to not do so. Yellow Fever Shots are administered by your local vaccination offices, approved medical facilities who advertise to do so, walgreens, and cvs. Due to the shortage at some locations this shot may not be available, therefore, it is advised that you call around to be sure the vaccination is in stock and available upon scheduling an appointment for the vaccination. We strongly urge that you do not wait until the last minute to acquire this vaccination as it is extremely difficult during certain times of the year to find availability for this vaccination.
Are Covid 19 vaccinations required?
No. You are not required to have a covid 19 vaccination prior to travel. However, at this moment Ghana is requiring that all travelers who are non citizens of Ghana, obtain a covid 19 test that will provide proof of negative results 3 days upon arrival. In addition, if you arrive without this test, you will be required to test at the Kotoka International Airport upon arrival at your expense and your results must return negative in order to depart the airport. On the other hand, if you are fully vaccinated and have a covid 19 vaccination card, you will be allowed entry without having to undergo covid 19 testing.
